Corpus Paradisus

Corpus Paradisus: Biotechnical Interventions on the Body of an Aging Park, is a Bachelors of Architecture Thesis Project from Spring 2016.

This thesis proposes a reconceptualization of Flushing Meadows Park, the former 1936 and 1964 World’s Fair Grounds, as an aging body, upon which one must intervene to revive the character of the park by exploiting its intrinsically themed urban logic.

After identifying urban “organs” that fail to function at their full capacity, a series of metaphorical architectural surgeries are proposed to both embue a new theme park element and install functional public park facilities for the neighboring communities.

The proposed park facilities engage the bizarreness of existing park structures, many of them remnants of World’s Fair Pavilions, to reinstill a sense of theatrical desination in the park.
